Club Eligibility
Slinger Gridiron Club – Player Eligibility & Open Enrollment Policy
To ensure fairness and compliance with AAYFL rules, player eligibility for the Slinger Gridiron Club (SGC) is based on school district residency and school attendance. Please review the guidelines below carefully.
Players Who LIVE in the Slinger School District
If your family lives within the Slinger School District, your child is eligible to play for Slinger Gridiron regardless of where they attend school, including:
- Slinger Public Schools
- Homeschool
- Another public or private school
Residency in the district alone makes the player eligible.
Players Who DO NOT Live in the Slinger School District
Eligibility depends on public school attendance, not private schools located within district boundaries.
Attending Slinger Public Schools (via Open Enrollment)
Players who live outside the Slinger School District must:
- Be open enrolled, and
- Attend Slinger Public Schools for at least two (2) full school years before becoming eligible to play for Slinger Gridiron.
Examples:
- To play in 5th grade, the player must have open enrolled and attended Slinger Public Schools in 3rd and 4th grade.
- If the player only attended Slinger Schools for 4th grade, they are not eligible until 6th grade.
- If a player open enrolls into Slinger Schools in 5th grade, they would not be eligible to play for SGC until 7th grade.
- This pattern continues for later grades.
Attending a Private School Within Slinger District Boundaries
If a player:
- Lives outside the Slinger School District, and
- Attends a private school located within Slinger district boundaries (such as St. Peter’s),
The player must play for the football club in the school district where they live.
If the home school district does not have an AAYFL football team, the player must join the closest eligible club, which may not be Slinger. Families should contact SGC so we can help confirm eligibility with the AAYFL.
Transitioning from Private School to Slinger Public Schools
If a player:
- Lives outside the Slinger School District,
- Attends a private school (e.g., St. Peter’s),
- Then open enrolls and begins attending Slinger Public Schools,
The player is still required to attend Slinger Public Schools for two (2) full years before becoming eligible.
Example:
- A player attends St. Peter’s through 5th grade,
- Open enrolls and attends Slinger Middle School in 6th and 7th grade,
- The player becomes eligible to play for Slinger Gridiron in 8th grade.
Bottom Line
If a player does not live in the Slinger School District, they must:
- Be open enrolled
- Attend a Slinger District public school for two full years
Before they are eligible to play for the Slinger Gridiron Club.
